I found the recipe online and tweaked it, I just had that slice in the photo with a cup of tea and I'm a happy little hausfrau, now I am ready to take on the late afternoon toy tidy up, the getting in and folding of the washing and all those other jobs that I have been putting off all day ...
...the cake
125g butter, melted
1 cup chopped feijoas
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 1/2 cups plain flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp all spice
...the crumble
1 1/2 tbsp butter, melted
1/2 cup rolled oats
1/4 cup brown sugar
Add the feijoas, sugar and egg to the melted butter. Stir well, then fold in the sifted dry ingredients. Pour mixture into a lined cake tin (I used a 20cm tin).
Combine the crumble ingredients and sprinkle over the cake then bake at 180 for 50-60 minutes, until the centre springs back when pressed lightly, cool in tin for ten minutes then remove and transfer to a rack.
ooh lucky you! No ones even heard of feijoas over here in Perth :-(
ReplyDeletewell seeing as I ignored this, apparently delicious fruit for so long right in front of my face, i can't help but be amazed at how, well, amazing that cake looks! Can;t believe you only stopped at one slice! lets catch up soon and we need to make that movie date - i'm seeing the previews all over and can't wait ;-)
ReplyDeletedate night bring it on !!!! and you will be receiving some of this for morning tea as promised to enlighten you to the joys of feijoa's !!!
ReplyDeleteYUM! I'm a bit feijoa-mad at the moment too - reckon they are the fruit version of asparagus - you've got to go nuts while they're in season cos it's a long time to wait to the next one!
